      Most tornados start from a thunderstorm and you need air that is warm but also moist.

      I think it is unstable air associated with hot ground and the earths rotation. The bottom of the spinning column of air is on the ground and the top is high up in the clouds.

      I don’t know how they start, but I have seen one destroy part of a house in real life!
