That’s a tricky question. The short answer is no. We are actually programmed to eat unhealthy foods. Thousands of years ago, before Tescos, we had to hunt for food, and we didn’t know when we would be able to get our next meal. So our brains developed techniques to make us really enjoy foods with lots of calories, because this would stop us from becoming hungry as quickly if it took a while to get our next meal. However now we have lots of food, but our brains still think we might starve, so they trick us into thinking we still need chocolate and pizza (that’s why these foods taste so good!)

One way to eat more healthy is to be aware that unhealthy foods trick our brain into thinking we need to eat more of them. Remember that it’s very unlikely you are going to starve in today’s world, and that you need to eat healthy foods in order to grow. Once you know your brain is tricking you into wanting pizza and chocolate, you can be aware of it and more resistant to its forces!
